Superb vintage Abacus, or Suanpan, made by the Lotus-Flower Brand Company, some time between 1949 and the late 1970's. Features a handcrafted black lacquered rectangular wood frame, decorated with ornate brass corners and side brackets. It has 13 fixed bamboo rods holding red hardwood beads. There are two beads on each rod in the upper deck and five beads each in the bottom. The Suanpan origins can be traced back to the Han Dynasty in 25AD.

I had this piece professionally cleaned and detailed and it's in exceptional condition with no damage and little to no wear. Beautiful addition to any Oriental décor or as a gift for your favorite accountant.

The Lotus-Flower Brand Company was in business from around 1949 through the late 1960's. I have found very little information about the company, as The Peoples Republic of China was going through major social and economic changes during that period under Mao's rule.
