About the Artist: Ted Saito
Ted Saito was an American ceramic artist associated with the California studio pottery movement.
He earned his MFA in ceramics from San Diego State University in 1964 and became an active participant in the San Diego arts community.
Although particularly recognized for his functional pottery, Saito's artistic practice also included ceramic jewelry, fine woodcut prints, and welded steel sculpture.
His ceramic work ranges from Japanese-influenced forms and glazes to more expressive decorative treatments featuring bright colors and playful graphic designs.
Saito's work was exhibited through the San Diego Potters Guild, and in 1992 he participated in a ceramics exchange program in Beijing, demonstrating his craft at the Central Academy of Arts and Design.
