Striking and wonderfully sculptural, this oversized vintage ship’s wheel wall mirror dates to approximately the 1940s–1950s and has been fully restored for a fresh new life.

Measuring just shy of three feet across, the dramatic circular frame is surrounded by eight classic wheel spokes, giving the mirror a bold architectural presence on the wall. The entire frame has been refinished in a rich deep navy blue semi-gloss enamel, followed by a clear protective top coat that gives the surface depth and a beautifully finished appearance while helping protect the restoration.

The deep navy coloration makes this piece especially versatile. From a distance it has the sophistication of a dark neutral, while closer inspection reveals the rich blue tone. It works beautifully in coastal, nautical, mid-century modern, traditional, contemporary, eclectic, cottage, lake-house, beach-house or masculine interiors without feeling overly themed.

The mirror itself remains in very good vintage condition with little to no noticeable wear. Please note that tissue paper was placed over the mirror for several of the listing photographs to minimize reflections during photography; the final photographs show the uncovered mirror surface.

As part of the restoration, a new brown paper dust backing was installed, while the original hanging wire and hardware were carefully retained and reinstalled. All eight wheel spokes are secure, snug and tight.

Its large scale makes this a particularly impressive statement piece above a console, credenza, fireplace mantel or dresser, or as a focal point in an entryway, living room, home office, library, den, beach house, lake house or cabin.

A fantastic example of classic maritime-inspired design — substantial enough to command attention while the sophisticated navy finish gives it an unexpectedly chic, modern edge.
