Bold, whimsical and wonderfully sculptural, this striking grouping brings together two signed works by Colorado metalsmith Rick Martin — a tall abstract clock dated 2007 and a coordinating candleholder dated 1996.

Although created more than a decade apart, the two pieces share Martin’s unmistakable design language: graphic black steel, sweeping linear forms, circular geometry, vivid color accents and a playful postmodern sensibility.

The tall clock is especially dramatic. Rising to more than 21 inches, its slender architectural frame supports a circular brushed-metal clock face with a black center and brilliant yellow hands. A glossy magenta orb appears almost to float above the composition, while looping and crescent-shaped steel elements give the piece wonderful movement and visual tension.

The coordinating candleholder is lower and more compact, but every bit as sculptural. Its oversized circular framework is interrupted by a dynamic horizontal sweep of black steel, while a bright red orb anchors the center. A single candle cup rises above the composition, turning the functional object into a small piece of abstract sculpture.

Together, the two works create a fantastic Memphis, postmodern, Pop Art and modernist-inspired vignette.

They would look exceptional on a console, mantel, credenza, bookshelf, executive desk, home bar or gallery-style display, either grouped together or displayed separately.

The clock is battery operated, allowing it to function as both a practical timepiece and a piece of decorative art.

Both pieces are individually signed and dated by Rick Martin, preserving their attribution and giving the set particular appeal for collectors of colorful contemporary metalwork and postmodern decorative design.

Any photographs showing furniture or additional décor are included only to demonstrate styling and scale. Only the candlestick and clock are included with the purchase.

About the Artist: Rick Martin is a metalsmith based in Englewood, Colorado, whose work combines steel with occasional stainless-steel and wood embellishments. His pieces are welded, ground, painted and stained, with a deliberate emphasis on the clean, graceful lines associated with modern design.

Martin has described his work as intentionally “colorful, bright & vivid,” an approach that is beautifully evident in these two pieces.

Condition: Both pieces are in excellent, exceptionally well-preserved condition. The painted and enamel finishes remain bright and crisp with no notable damage or significant finish loss. Both are structurally sound and ready for display.

Damages and issues
Please inspect your order upon reception and contact us immediately if the item is defective, damaged or if you receive the wrong item, so that we can evaluate the issue and make it right.

Exceptions / non-returnable items
Unfortunately, we cannot accept returns on gift cards.

European Union 14 day cooling off period
Notwithstanding the above, if the merchandise is being shipped into the European Union, you have the right to cancel or return your order within 14 days, for any reason and without a justification. As above, your item must be in the same condition that you received it, unworn or unused, with tags, and in its original packaging. You’ll also need the receipt or proof of purchase.

Refunds
We will notify you once we’ve received and inspected your return, and let you know if the refund was approved or not. If approved, you’ll be automatically refunded on your original payment method within 10 business days. Please remember it can take some time for your bank or credit card company to process and post the refund too.
