An exceptional and increasingly difficult-to-find mid-century modern cup and saucer service for eight, designed by celebrated industrial designer Ben Seibel for Raymor by Roseville and dating to approximately 1952–1954.
The set consists of eight sculptural cups and eight coordinating saucers, all finished in the wonderfully understated “Beach Gray” glaze — a soft, warm gray-beige neutral that today would probably be described as the perfect greige. The subtle matte surface beautifully emphasizes Seibel’s clean, architectural forms and gives the entire service an elegant organic-modern quality.
The cups have a distinctive low, broad profile with wonderfully exaggerated loop handles that feel both functional and sculptural. The gently irregular saucers echo the same modernist sensibility, creating a table setting that is unmistakably early-1950s yet feels remarkably contemporary more than seventy years later.
This is exactly the kind of design that made Raymor an important force in bringing sophisticated modern design into the American home during the postwar period. Rather than relying on applied ornament, Seibel allowed proportion, silhouette, texture, and material to become the decoration.
Even more impressive is the condition. All eight cups and all eight saucers are in exceptional vintage condition, with no chips, cracks, crazing, or repairs. The matte glaze remains beautifully preserved throughout, and the set appears to have been remarkably well cared for.
Finding an individual piece of early Raymor by Roseville is one thing; finding a complete matching service for eight in this condition and neutral glaze is considerably more special.
Beautiful enough for a serious mid-century ceramics collection yet entirely usable, this set would be stunning in a MCM, organic modern, Scandinavian-inspired, minimalist, or contemporary interior. It would also make an extraordinary coffee or tea service for anyone who appreciates important postwar American design.
A superb example of Ben Seibel’s functional modernism — sculptural, restrained, beautifully made, and extraordinarily timeless.
Condition: Exceptional vintage condition. All eight cups and eight saucers are free of chips, cracks, crazing, and repairs. Glaze and surfaces present beautifully throughout.

Damages and issues

European Union 14 day cooling off period
Notwithstanding the above, if the merchandise is being shipped into the European Union, you have the right to cancel or return your order within 14 days, for any reason and without a justification. As above, your item must be in the same condition that you received it, unworn or unused, with tags, and in its original packaging. You’ll also need the receipt or proof of purchase.
Refunds
We will notify you once we’ve received and inspected your return, and let you know if the refund was approved or not. If approved, you’ll be automatically refunded on your original payment method within 10 business days.
