A rare and exceptional mid-century sterling silver and enamel brooch designed by legendary Danish modernist Henning Koppel for Georg Jensen, model #306, dating to the late 1940s.
Designed in 1947, this striking brooch is a superb example of Koppel’s revolutionary biomorphic design language. Its fluid, asymmetrical silhouette feels almost sculpted in motion, with sweeping organic contours that reject traditional symmetry in favor of the expressive, free-form abstraction for which Koppel became internationally celebrated.
The substantial sterling silver body frames a dramatic field of richly saturated enamel in deep navy and royal blue, creating extraordinary contrast against the bright silver. The enamel has wonderful depth and luminosity, shifting subtly in tone as the light moves across the surface and emphasizing the brooch’s sculptural, almost liquid quality.
At 27.6 grams, the piece has a particularly satisfying weight and presence in the hand. The enamel remains beautifully preserved—crisp, glossy, vibrant, and fully intact, with no chips, cracks, repairs, or other damage noted.
The brooch retains its natural vintage silver surface and has not been professionally polished. Professional polishing can be arranged upon request at the time of purchase for a buyer who prefers a brighter finish.
For added versatility, two converters are included, allowing the brooch to also be worn as a dramatic pendant on a chain.
Marked Georg Jensen, 925S, Denmark, 306, HK, this is an outstanding collectible example of one of the most important collaborations in 20th-century Scandinavian jewelry design.
Henning Koppel’s work for Georg Jensen helped redefine Danish silver after World War II, replacing traditional ornament with bold abstraction, organic movement, and sculptural form. His designs remain among the most recognizable and sought-after examples of Danish Modern jewelry.
A remarkable piece of wearable sculpture for the serious collector of Georg Jensen, Henning Koppel, Scandinavian Modern, and museum-quality mid-century design.
Documented Design: Brooch #306 is illustrated in Georg Jensen Jewelry, published by The Bard Graduate Center for Studies in the Decorative Arts, Design, and Culture in association with Yale University Press. The publication illustrates #306 alongside three related Henning Koppel enamel brooches and specifically dates the design to 1947, documenting it as part of Koppel's groundbreaking early postwar jewelry work for Georg Jensen.
