A spectacular vintage sculptural table lamp by celebrated Cuban-American designer Hivo Van Teal, featuring the dramatic clear acrylic forms for which Van Teal became renowned during the 1970s and 1980s.
The lamp is constructed around a tall, crystal-clear Lucite center column rising from a thick elevated square base. Four substantial dimensional Lucite prisms emerge dramatically from the base at alternating angles, creating an almost botanical composition reminiscent of opening leaves, crystalline shards, or an abstract flower.
The substantial beveled acrylic elements beautifully refract and reflect surrounding light, giving the lamp a constantly changing appearance depending upon the viewing angle and lighting conditions. Despite its substantial sculptural presence, the transparency of the Lucite keeps the design visually light and remarkably versatile.
This is much more than functional lighting — it reads as a piece of illuminated sculpture.
Its combination of geometric form, transparency and dramatic scale makes it particularly striking in Mid-Century Modern, Hollywood Regency, Modernist, Postmodern, Contemporary, Minimalist and Eclectic interiors. It would be exceptional on a console, side table, nightstand, credenza or executive-office table.
The lamp remains in excellent vintage condition, showing little to no visible wear. The Lucite is beautifully preserved with no chips, cracks or missing components noted. The lamp is fully functioning and ready for use.
A sophisticated and increasingly collectible example of Hivo Van Teal's early sculptural lighting — bold enough to command attention while remaining neutral enough to complement virtually any interior.

About Hivo Van Teal
Cuban-born designer Hivo Van Teal established Van Teal in Miami in the 1970s after developing a distinctive sculptural vocabulary centered around acrylic and Lucite.
Van Teal's early acrylic sculptures quickly attracted attention from upscale galleries and retailers, and the company went on to become particularly recognized for merging fine-art sculpture with decorative lighting and furnishings.
The clear acrylic constructions produced during this period remain among the company's most recognizable designs, characterized by exaggerated geometric forms, dimensional layering and dramatic manipulation of reflected light.
Van Teal later received numerous industry honors, including multiple awards for contemporary sculpture and ARTS Awards during the 1980s and 1990s.

Damages and issues

European Union 14 day cooling off period
Notwithstanding the above, if the merchandise is being shipped into the European Union, you have the right to cancel or return your order within 14 days, for any reason and without a justification. As above, your item must be in the same condition that you received it, unworn or unused, with tags, and in its original packaging. You’ll also need the receipt or proof of purchase.
Refunds
We will notify you once we’ve received and inspected your return, and let you know if the refund was approved or not. If approved, you’ll be automatically refunded on your original payment method within 10 business days. Please remember it can take some time for your bank or credit card company to process and post the refund too.
