A beautifully crafted mid-century sterling silver brooch by Danish silversmith Carl Ove Frydensberg, dating to approximately the 1950s.

The design is sculptural and organic, combining a stylized flower with softly modeled leaves and curved botanical forms. The dimensional construction gives the piece a wonderful sense of depth and movement, while the clean sterling surface keeps the composition elegant and distinctly Scandinavian.

The flower is rendered with softly defined petals surrounding a raised center, balanced by smooth, elongated leaves and a gently curving stem. Together, the elements create a graceful botanical composition that feels both naturalistic and modernist.

Marked Sterling COF Denmark, the brooch is attributed to Carl Ove Frydensberg, a Copenhagen silversmith active from 1949 to 1982. Frydensberg previously worked as a journeyman at the Georg Jensen silversmith from 1937/38 to 1941.

The brooch remains in excellent vintage condition with little to no visible wear and no noted damage. It has been professionally polished and presents beautifully with a bright, clean finish.

Carl Ove Frydensberg (b. March 12, 1919, Horsens, Denmark) was a Danish gold- and silversmith whose career placed him within the important tradition of mid-20th-century Scandinavian design. He trained as a gold- and silversmith under master silversmith Em. Hansen in Odense, completing his apprenticeship in 1937, and subsequently worked as a journeyman at the prestigious Georg Jensen silversmithy until 1941, gaining experience during one of the most influential periods in Danish silver design. Frydensberg later became workshop foreman for Copenhagen jeweler and goldsmith Frode Hansen, and in 1949 he assumed ownership of the firm, continuing the business as Frode Hansens Eftf. v. C. O. Frydensberg from Nørre Søgade 13 in Copenhagen. His registered C.O.F. maker’s mark was used in Copenhagen from 1949 through 1982. During those decades Frydensberg produced finely crafted sterling silver jewelry including brooches, rings, bracelets, necklaces, cufflinks, and other decorative objects, with surviving examples ranging from sculptural botanical and floral forms to cleaner geometric and modernist compositions. His work reflects the high technical standards, restrained elegance, and nature-inspired design vocabulary associated with postwar Danish silversmithing.
