A rare and historically significant sterling silver brooch produced for Georg Jensen Inc., U.S.A., dating to the wartime/postwar period of approximately the 1940s to 1951. Designed in an elegant botanical motif, the brooch features two sculptural leaves suspended beneath a graceful arrangement of interlocking vine-like scrolls, creating a beautifully balanced composition with strong Art Deco and early modernist influence.
Marked “Georg Jensen Inc. U.S.A. Sterling L.P. 109,” this piece was produced in the United States during the period when wartime conditions disrupted normal shipments of Danish silver from the Georg Jensen workshop in Copenhagen. During those years, American silversmiths produced jewelry and hollowware for the Georg Jensen Inc. store in New York so the company could continue offering silver goods despite the limitations on imports from Denmark.
The initials L.P. identify the American silversmith Alphonse LaPaglia, whose work for Georg Jensen Inc. is highly regarded by collectors for its distinctive synthesis of Scandinavian modernism and American studio craftsmanship.
According to published Georg Jensen reference material, once shipments of silver from Copenhagen were fully reinstated, an agreement reached in 1951 between Frederik Lunning and the Georg Jensen company directors formally ended the production and sale of American-made silver bearing the “Georg Jensen Inc. U.S.A.” shop mark. As a result, sterling pieces carrying this mark can be confidently dated to approximately 1940–1951, making this brooch a fascinating artifact of a very specific chapter in Georg Jensen history.
The design is beautifully executed, with softly modeled leaves, delicate engraved veining, and graceful openwork scrolls that give the brooch a refined sense of movement. It has been professionally polished and presents beautifully, with a bright, luminous sterling finish.

Damages and issues

Refunds
