A rare and exceptional mid-century sterling silver and pearl demi-parure by celebrated Taxco modernist silversmith Sigfrido “Sigi” Pineda, comprising a sculptural brooch with its coordinating earrings and dating to approximately the 1950s.

The suite is an outstanding example of Pineda’s highly individual approach to Mexican Modernism, combining fluid sculptural line, dramatic negative space, polished sterling silver and luminous pearls into a composition that feels simultaneously organic, architectural and distinctly Atomic Age.

The brooch is especially striking. Two elongated sterling forms sweep outward in graceful opposing curves, creating a dynamic, almost aerodynamic silhouette. Nestled near one end is a luminous pearl, whose softly rounded surface provides an elegant counterpoint to the cool, sharply defined silver. The matching earrings echo the same design vocabulary in compact sculptural forms, each pairing a pearl with an angular, dimensional sterling element.

The result is not simply a coordinated jewelry set, but a true mid-century demi-parure in which each component functions independently while together creating a unified sculptural statement.

The brooch measures approximately 2.95 inches wide, while the earrings measure approximately 1.45 inches long. The complete set has a combined weight of 18.6 grams.

The pieces are marked Sigi Tasco, Hecho en Mexico, Sterling, with design number 81 on the brooch and 109 on the earrings, along with the Mexican eagle assay mark. Sigi Pineda’s work is well documented with Eagle 3 and related Taxco marks.

The earrings have been professionally converted to pierced posts and fitted with new sterling silver backs for contemporary wear. The entire suite has also been professionally polished since the original photographs were taken and now presents beautifully with a bright, highly reflective finish.

A converter is included so the brooch may additionally be worn as a pendant.

Sigfrido “Sigi” Pineda was one of the important second-generation modernist silversmiths to emerge from Taxco’s celebrated silver tradition. He trained in the workshops of Los Castillo and later worked with Margot de Taxco before establishing his own workshop in 1952. His independent work moved away from traditional Mexican revival motifs toward a more distilled modernist vocabulary characterized by disciplined curves, strong sculptural forms and sophisticated use of gemstones and other contrasting materials.

A superb collector’s example of postwar Mexican Modernism, especially desirable as a surviving matched demi-parure.
