Stunning pendant from the iconic Stella Popowski. Skillfully crafted with sterling silver, brass, copper, enamel and crushed stones in an abstract modernist design. Pendant has been professionally polished and buffed. It is a thick pendant that has also been trimmed around the edges in black enamel. Face of the pendant is in excellent condition, all enamel is damage free and fully intact. There are a few minor dings to the backside. Paired with a brand new sterling chain.
Stella (Estela) Popowski (1931-2008) was a Polish jewish immigrant who moved to Cuba in the 1940s to escape the Nazis in Europe. She then moved on to Mexico and worked in Taxco in the 1950s and 1960s designing jewelry for others (Antonio Pineda, Los Castillo) and later for herself. She moved to California where she painted, made decorative items, and did graphic design (cards menus etc). She passed away in Newport Beach, California in 2008.
