Fantastic articulating kinetic silver pendant by Thune of Norway. The pendant has been professionally polished and looks almost new with no damage or issues of any kind. I paired it with an extra long vintage Scandinavian sterling chain. Both are in excellent condition.

Nilius Marthinius Thune (1831-1890)

Thune received his Journeyman on February 24, 1853 after studying und H. Lorentzen in Drammen. He then travelled to Germany where he remained for 3 years to further his craftsmanship. Upon his return, he completed his masters piece, a silver teapot and went to work for goldsmith Hansen's workshop in Oslo. He received his master goldsmith on March 19, 1857, and citizenship on June 16th of the same year, the same month he took over the Brinck business on Church St and changed the trade name to N.M. Thune after Brinck died that same year. In 1861 he moved his business to Upper Castle Street 12, which he bought in 1862. His widow, Sophie Thune, continued to run the business after his death in 1890. In 1901 the firm was taken over by their 2 sons, NM Thune, Jr. and Johan Emil Thune. NM Thune, Jr, passed away in 1916 and upon his passing, Johan Emil Thune ran the company solo. Later, NM Thune, Jr's son, Nils Moritz Thune, join the firm upon receiving his Journeyman certification in 1937, working along side his Uncle. It is not clear when Johan Emil Thune passed away, but Nils Moritz Thune took over the firm in 1950. - Bio courtesy of the book Northern Lights - The Beauty of the Forgotten Scandinavian Enamel Jewelry Artists by Lois Olson and Dwight Olson
