Superb US Designer Roach 2 Abstract Modernist Sterling Silver Ring Circa 1960s - Rare Estate Find

Measurements: Size 7-US / 54-EU / N-UK

Markings: Roach2

Weight: 9.1g

Stunning craftsmanship in this highly collectible sterling silver ring by Bill and Patsy Roach. Simple, yet intricate, the design features recessed and oxidized circles and orbs, reminiscent of many of their other works from the 1960's. It has been professionally polished and is in like new condition. It is quite shiny and the weird black lines are reflections, not damage.

Roach2 is the mark and jewelry of Bill and Patsy Roach, a husband and wife team with a sincere, lifelong dedication to designing and creating superbly handcrafted jewelry. Their work began with the legacy left by Bill's mother, Ruth Roach. They were married in 1959, and Patsy began making jewelry under the tutelage of her Mother-in-Law, Ruth and her close friend Christian Schmidt (Another iconic American designer). In the 1960s. they purchased Crow Wing Crest Resort and Gallery on the lake of Northern Minnesota near Akeley. Part of the charm of Roach 2 designs from this period is their spontaneity. They created fresh, unique designs inspired by their natural surroundings. In 1971, they sold the resort and built a home and studio at Lake George, Minnesota, in order to be closer to schools for their 2 boys. They designed jewelry full time and won numerous awards and accolades for their work. In 1982, they opened a gallery in Park Rapids, Minn. where they sold not only their own jewelry, they brought Nationally known artists and artisans work to the gallery for exhibitions. In 1996, Bill died suddenly of a heart attack. Though Patsy was devastated, and the partnership that had been Roach 2 ended, the legacy left by their love story continues to live on through the remarkable jewelry they created together. Patsy still works with jewelry, but in a different manner. - Courtesy of the book: "Modernist Jewelry 1930-1960 The Wearable Art Movement by Marbeth Schon" Published 2004 by Schiffer Publishing
