Superb and fully hallmarked sterling silver and dark green malachite brooch. Brooch is in the iconic sunburst pattern that was a signature of Miguel. Brooch is in exceptional condition with little to no wear comparable to age. The stone is damage free. Beautiful collector's piece. Included with purchase is a silver plate converter so it can be worn as a pendant.
Miguel Melendez began his career as an apprentice at William Spratling's Taller de las Delicias. He join Los Castillo in 1940. He had worked for Los Castillo for many years before joining Margot at Margot de Taxco when she opened her shop in 1947. Melendez eventually became silversmith workshop manager at Margot's Taller until he left and opened his own shop in 1953. He passed away in 1980.
