The Kalo Shop (1900-1970) was the leading maker of Arts and Crafts movement in Chicago, and considered to be very important and pioneering. It was established by Clara Barck, born in 1868. She married another silversmith, Georg Wells in 1900. Kalo Shop became Chicago's foremost producer of silver, with the people in training living communally. In 1914 Clara Wells moved from Chicago and opened a salesroom in New York City. She never changed to mass produced techniques but continued having all their pieces made by hand. She retired in 1940 and handed the business over to some of her top silversmiths. Yngve Olssen became the principal designer.
