Esther Lewittes (1904-1990) Los Angeles, Ca. Lewittes received a degree from Columbia University's Teacher's College in NYC, NY, where she also studied Industrial Design at the Art League and jewelry making with a staff jeweler at Cartier. In the early 50s she started making her own jewelry that she sold at stores like Georg Jensen and America House in New York and Nanny's in San Francisco. Later moving to California, she became one of the most colorful personalities among the jewelers working in LA. In 1961 she open a gallery on La Ceinega Blvd and a year later moved to Melrose Ave. Her shop was active from 1930s through the early 1970s. - Courtesy of the book: "Modernist Jewelry 1930-1960 The Wearable Art Movement by Marbeth Schon" Published 2004 by Schiffer Publishing.
